Append reusable layers

Append brings selected layers into the composition you are already editing. Your existing layers stay in place, and the imported effect becomes editable content in your project.

  1. Open the destination project in Studio.
  2. Inspect the recipe’s Replaceable sources section.
  3. Decide which of your existing Project Inputs should drive the imported layers.
  4. If a required input does not exist yet, prepare the file or device source you want to use.
  1. Choose File → Append Project…. The project browser opens while your composition stays open.
  2. Choose a collection or playlist, find a project, and select Choose layers to append. If you have a project file on your device, use From file… instead.
  3. In Add layers · project name, select complete entries under Layers. A layer brings its effects, graph, exposed controls and the resources it needs.
  4. Under Connect sources, choose a compatible Source · …, Layer · …, or Shared Texture · … from your composition, or choose Include original source explicitly.
  5. Choose Add layers. All layers + original sources brings in the complete example and its source material when that is what you want.
  6. Check the imported result before saving. One Undo removes the complete append; Redo restores it.

The importer never silently brings demonstration footage into your project. An individual or partial layer selection still requires explicit mapping. If dependencies remain unresolved, the dialog says Connect N missing sources to continue. Finish those mappings, include the original producer, or cancel the add.

The imported layers become normal authored content in your project. Editing them does not change the library original. Updating or removing the original Portal project also does not rewrite layers already imported into your project.

  • Project Inputs provide replaceable image, video, sequence, camera, audio, microphone, or system-audio sources. Compatible mapping preserves the authored input identity.
  • Layer taps often let a reusable processing layer read a separate demo producer. Map the tap to an existing destination layer or explicitly include that producer.
  • Shared Textures connect consumers to producers. If you omit the owner, map the consumer to a compatible Shared Texture or import its producer too.
  • Feedback owns retained history. After import, use its Clear control once if the first frame contains history from earlier editing.
  • 3D scenes can include models, environments, materials, projectors, and animation along with the selected layer.

Read Project Inputs for source compatibility and Shared Textures for cross-layer routing.
